Last updated: September 3, 2024

TFL has announced that it is currently handling an ongoing cybersecurity incident. The organisation, responsible for overseeing the majority of London’s transport services, has stated that there is no evidence to suggest that any customer data has been compromised. Additionally, TFL has assured the public that the incident has not impacted transport operations.

Immediate Actions and Government Collaboration

TFL has taken immediate measures to prevent any further unauthorised access to its systems. The organisation is working closely with relevant government agencies, including the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). They will investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure that all necessary precautions are being taken to protect its systems and customer information.

Shashi Verma, TFL’s Chief Technology Officer, commented on the situation, saying: We have introduced several measures to our internal systems to address this ongoing cybersecurity incident. The security of our systems and customer data is of utmost importance to us, and we will continue to assess the situation throughout and after the incident.

No Evidence of Data Compromise

Currently, there is no indication that customer data has been affected. TFL has emphasised that the safety and security of its customers’ data remain a top priority and it continues to monitor the situation closely.

Customer Communication and Transparency

Customers who might have concerns are encouraged to visit the TFL website for the latest updates and information regarding the incident. In addition, TFL has proactively reached out to its customers through emails to provide reassurance and inform them about the ongoing situation. The email, similar to the one received by customers, stated that “there is no evidence that any customer data has been compromised and there has been no impact on TFL services.”

Government Response

A spokesperson for the National Cyber Security Centre confirmed their involvement, stating: We are working with Transport for London, alongside law enforcement partners, to fully understand the impact of an incident. The investigation is ongoing and further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
